Mi belongs to the long list of all-girl Japanese pop-rock bands. A trio—Maika, Yuri, and Aya—they burst onto the scene in 2005 with a typical process: three singles followed by a debut album. Atypically, however, was their quick success. Despite releasing their debut album, M-1, in October 2005, it won Mi the Best New Artist (Female Rock) category for the following Japan Gold Disc Awards. Two years later, after a series of tours, they released their second album: Love Party. Since then Mi has been relatively quiet. A year later they released a ‘Best Of’ collection but I haven’t seen anything from them since 2008–2009. I assume Mi has disbanded but I actually don’t know for sure, and clearly am too lazy to just look online to see….
