Anime and manga fans may already know Anna Tsuchiya, especially fans of Nana. Tsuchiya performed the songs for the ‘Black Stones’ in the anime adaptation. Later she would release the related album Anna Tsuchiya Inspi' Nana (Black Stones), another installment in her successful solo music career.
But before all of that Anna Tsuchiya was a member of the duo Spin Aqua, alongside musician Kaz Iwaike, better known as K.A.Z., of the band Oblivion Dust. Spin Aqua lasted for less than two years. In 2003 they released Pisces, their only album. And then early in 2004 they disbanded after a hiatus in which Tsuchiya was pregnant with her first child.
Despite initial praise for Tsuchiya, who critics compared favorably to Nanase Aikawa, Pisces fared poorly. It did not sell well and did not make it far up the Oricon charts. But personally I think it is a good album, and particularly interesting when compared against Tsuchiya’s solo work. Her vocals on Pisces are often considered smoother and lacking the sultry texture that she would use on her later releases like Taste My Beat.
I started uploading at least one album a day exactly two weeks ago, and I’ve been picking (mostly) older albums I enjoy at random. But I would certainly try to accommodate any requests. So feel free to leave me a comment if there’s an artist or album you’d like me to upload.
