Space Men Appear In Tokyo (English Fansub/dub. Daiei. Warning From Space) [Japan] [1956/DVDRIP/DVD-R]
Quote:
I hate English dubs of International films more than life itself and I've been waiting ever since bakeneko uploaded the beautiful Japanese-language original PAL DVD-R for someone to subtitle it. No one did so I decided to, myself.
Creating these fansubs was difficult but it was a labor of love. This is the first science fiction movie I ever remember seeing and the starfish aliens floated through my memories for years until I found out the title of the film.
To make the subs I first transcribed the pathetically juvenile English dubbed version (think of the 70s era Shaw Brothers kung fu flicks and early Godzilla movies) of Warning From Space then translated the Spanish and Bulgarian subs with Google Translate and World Lingo. This gave me very broken English but more literal subtitles as far as the original script is concerned. I just took the best information and ideas from all the above, added in a tiny bit of artistic license and I believe these turned out very well. I would appreciate any feedback.
I also added the English audio track from my Warning From Space DVD, which required lots of chopping and stretching due to some rearranging of scenes between the two versions. The Japanese version also has an early scene at the dinner table which is not in the English version. This scene has no English audio.
* So, now:
Language: Japanese, English Subtitles: English
Extras include the original trailer, publicity shots, a TV interview with somebody, and a number of trailers from Daiei sci-fi, SFX and daikaiju films.
"Aliens, from the planet Paira, and Earthlings work together to prevent the Earth from being destroyed by a runaway planet, Planet R, from another galaxy in this early Japanese Sci-Fi movie released in 1956 with the American title "Warning from Space"."
A somber warning against nuclear proliferation
* The Pairan aliens were designed by the prominent avant-garde artist Tarō Okamoto. Okamoto’s most famous design, “Tower in the Sun” was the center piece of Expo 70, which brings me back to bakeneko. Here is a PM he sent me:
" "Bakusho Mondai's Explorations" is a weekly series in Japan (current) hosted by Tanaka and Hikari (a comedy duo named Bakusho Mondai), who go out on location and literally "inside" interesting places that most folks wouldn't get access to. Along with following them along, in this case, is a whole lot of historical documentary footage of the Tokyo World's Fair, images of the plans, footage of Taro Okamoto, and interviewing people who are caretakers and spokesmen for the tower."
"As with most of their shows, this one was a two-parter, which I edited seamlessly together."
He sent me the video but since I'm certain it would not be safe to upload here, I've put it up online for anyone who may be interested: https://mega.co.nz/#F!0dtmgbqJ!MithDr3Z1fY2g97Dszg39A
By the way, Starfish aliens can also be seen in the 1964 Ken Utsui Starman movie 'Evil Brain From Outer Space'.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049900/
