So literally, after months of working on this quite big project, we can finally release BECK Live Action Movie - with three qualities you can choose for your taste - 480p, 720p and 1080p! X3b Here are the techical details I'm going to copy and paste verbatim from Azazel-dono (who's so awesome for being patient in encoding and uploading these very big files & also buying the limited edition Blu-Ray with DVD extras):
Due to the super widescreen nature of the film, we have what may seem strange resolutions at first, but these are correct and when black bars are taken into account the files do make up a full 480, 720 and 1080p resolutions.
480p Release This release comes in 800x340 resolution encoded with h.264, with 5.1 audio in AAC format muxed into a MP4 container.
720p Release This release comes in 1280x544 resolution encoded with h.264, with 5.1 audio in AAC format muxed into a MP4 container.
1080p Release This release comes in 1920x816 resolution encoded with h.264, with 5.1 audio in AC3 format muxed into a M2TS container.
The reason behind the M2TS container is to allow a higher quality audio file to be provided and to allow for universal playback on PS3, 360, PC's and Blu-Ray players.
Also to note that given this is a long film, the size of the files are larger than normal releases. This is part of the reason for not including the higher quality AC3 on the lower resolution files to allow everyone a chance to get this fantastic movie.
BECK manga covers
Forgive me if I will be having a bit of a nostalgia trip - BECK is one of the first mangas I've read during the first years of scanlations in the Internet around early 2000 (interesting read of the history of it all at InsideScanlation). Anyway, I was reading it with titles available at MangaScreener (Monster, One Piece, 20th Century Boys, etc) during the old dial up days and this title has been one of my favorites. I really think the story is unique and I still remember my friends were so LOLwhat about it when they first heard the series since it's supposed to be a music oriented manga... But it's a manga! You can't hear the music being played! XD But if you actually read the manga - you will know that Koyuki has such an awesome voice.
BECK - Mongolian Chop Squad anime (read the manga or watch the anime why it’s Mongolian Chop Squad yet they are not named in the movie)
From the first time I heard that there will be a live action version of BECK manga (not anime, but manga), I was excited. To be honest personally, I didn't like the anime compared to the manga (don't get me wrong, I like the anime, just not as par as this movie nor the manga). Most likely because of how the anime portrayed Koyuki's supposedly whoa voice which was meh (to me). Yes yes yes - I already heard from the BECK fansubbing team that they went weh with how the director handled Koyuki's whoa voice. Personally, I think what the director did was the best option and I really (and I mean it seriously) like his decision X)
Some titles of Tsutsumi Yukihiko which I also recommend
Speaking of the director, when I found out that Tsutsumi Yukihiko will direct the movie, I'm like - FSCK YEAH! I so respect that director! I love most, if it not all, of his works. I really like how he stays true to the original version (in this case, manga) for most of his works. I mean, the camera angles of the manga panels are also being imitated, etc. If there were any changes, I’ve always liked how he change those parts that he changed. Heh, I love how he made the version of the H2 Jdrama from the Adachi Mitsuru manga very good too (watched the Jdrama thrice, read manga twice XD). His other popular titles would be 20th Century Boys and Trick series (where you can get the first season from our friends at TV-Nihon) which both were advertised in the trailers.
I LOVED how the movie handled extra characters as easter eggs which you will only get it if you read the manga (or watched the anime). The girl childhood friend of Koyuki was just mentioned as the girl that Ryuusuke was supposed to introduce to Chiba. Maho suddenly has a dream to be a director and the famous director was changed to the director Maho respects.
I believe each has their own reason why he or she will like this film. But probably the main reason why many will like to watch this film is because it has such an awesome cast. I mean wow. They got two fluent English speakers to get the parts of the siblings Ryusuke & Maho - Mizushima Hiro (who grew up in Switzerland, I think) and Kutsuna Shiori (who grew up in Australia, which explains her undeniable accent). Satoh Takeru playing as the wussy Koyuki is just spot on given from his Ryoutarou days as he shouts Henshin! (which he'll soon shout Kenshin!). Kiritani Kenta probably gave me the loudest OMFG! when I first read he will be Chiba - he just so fits the role. Nakamura Aoi is the current Sano in the new Hanazakari no Kimitachi e 2011 Jdrama series, also that we already saw him in an episode of Shinigami no Ballad. Of course, don't forget the guy who made erinbare-nii her husbando, Osamu Mukai whose career skyrocketed with his role as the legendary youkai master & mangaka, Mizuki Shigeru of Gegege no Nyoubou Morning Jdrama. Tokusatsu fans will also like this movie since it has two Kamen Riders as the lead here - Kabuto & Den-O back to back as the lead characters (Heh, reminds me of TimeLesSub’s Mei-chan no Shitsuji how Kabuto & Den-O interacted there). Not to mention, Nogami Koutarou (New Den-O in Chou Den-O movies), Gene Dopant / Long, Kamen Rider G Den-O (From Chou Den-O Trilogy, Episode Yellow), Ozu Tsubasa (MagiYellow), and Ankh (Kamen Rider OOO) have roles in the movie!]=http://www.plurk.com/p/ajjyc1Not to mention, Nogami Koutarou (New Den-O in Chou Den-O movies), Gene Dopant / Long, Kamen Rider G Den-O (From Chou Den-O Trilogy, Episode Yellow), Ozu Tsubasa (MagiYellow), and Ankh (Kamen Rider OOO) have roles in the movie!
Which reminds me, all the main cast except MizuHiro, we have worked in the past or definite plans on working on titles they are appearing or appeared haha (Takeru Satoh, Nakamura Aoi - Shinigami no Ballad; Kiritani Kenta - ROOKIES, Solanin ; Kutsuna Shiori - Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora Live Action Movie ; Mukai Osamu - Paradise Kiss Live Action).
Like our previous release of Detroit Metal City, even the hearing impaired will also enjoy the movie. I really took that in mind as I remember SilentWolfDog-dono of TV-Nihon really appreciated Detroit Metal City, even if the movie is music oriented.
And be sure to check the lyrics translations - especially the rap parts. erinbare-niiue did such a splendid awesome job in editing the rap parts also to rhyme in the translations. (I still remember her ranting all the time to me how she hates raps and Chiba whenever she works on it haha) A lot of special thanks for all the staff that worked on it. Since it's relatively a long movie - there were 9 timers, and 3 translators for this movie - I humbly thank the BECK fansubbing staff for being so awesome.
Here's SacredCultivator-dono's comments after he QC'd the movie (which I should put into spoiler tag)
Man this is one heck of a movie, despite not liking Music-oriented movies, this one captured me throughout the film.
Shiori Kutsuna does an amazing job at her role, and looks cute as heck, first knew her from Mei-chan no Shitsuji, and she's grown up so much from then and now looks stunning!
Wide range of crazy cast members.
Tendou and Shiori do a great job on their English. At first I was like, no way it can't be them actually speaking it as it sounds just so amazing compared to other Japanese speaking English. Cracked up the first few times because I was so shocked, but they pull it off and it works and is understandable.
The whole not hearing Den-O being able to sing gave me the Sucker Punch vibe of how you couldn't see Baby Doll's dance, although the thing with BECK is, at the very end you get to SEE what he's singing, so that made me go awesome, rather than just having the motion that he's singing but nothing more of what he's singing.
Overall a good movie, I mean it may be extremely long since it clocks in at about 2 and a half hours, but I must say, I wasn't bored at any given moment!
Sorry for this very lengthy release post. This is just one of the titles that I really REALLY liked to work on from the start. Being it with a music oriented movie, done by one of my favorite directors, with an awesome cast, and based on a manga I grew up with. ;D
