Tokyo Collection's high profile event! Yuichi Yoshii's VERSUS TOKYO
Japan Fashion Week (JFW) is at the heart of the Tokyo Collection. Mercedes Benz has taken over sponsorship from the government, refashioning the buyer's event into extravaganza for all. The VERSUS TOKYO symbolizes this transformation.
The Tokyo Midtown event features ten leading Japanese brands-mostly men's-that reach out to the public through shows, installations and talk events. Yuichi Yoshii, one of Japan's most prominent buyers, is the man behind VERSUS TOKYO. A charismatic figure among fashion-conscious youth, he directs both popular brands and boutiques.
It's through his influence that insider labels, such as "mastermind JAPAN" and "PHENOMENON," took part in JFW this year.
Yoshii says, "I would rather convey the passion of fashion to the public rather than simply invite so-called fashion-industry people."
