This is a collection of extras/special features from the Macross Delta BDs. I initially started this for my purely for own amusement, interest and use (mainly for convenience so I could watch the extras from different volumes without having to change discs) mostly just seeing if I could learn enough to do it myself. A caveat: I am neither an encoder nor do I have any level of proficiency with Japanese. As I drew near completion I decided to share the collection (I had already started sharing the ‘Making of’ files after seeing a comment requesting them) and so started making minor adjustments and what I hope are improvements. I’ve spent quite a bit of time on this and if nothing else feel it’s been well spent from an experience perspective. I hope you find it worthwhile as well.
Some notes regarding the files:
I’ve left the file names intact as far as how they appear on the discs. Within the file header I’ve added Romaji and English translations (to the best of my modest ability). I hope I got everything right, but won’t be shocked if there are mistakes to be found (as stated, no proficiency). I’ve similarly named chapters within some of the files themselves – Japanese/Romaji/English.
All files use AAC audio. I personally don’t hear enough of a difference and since this began as something for my personal use I did not feel any need to take up more space with a FLAC track.
Most of the files have been resized to 1280x720 using Lanczos4. The exceptions are the OP/EDs, and the Delta Mini-Theaters (1080p folder).
The CMs/PVs/etc., ‘Making of’ and 1st LIVE sources are 1080i so they were filtered using QTGMC which resulted in 60 fps files (yes, there are options to retain the original frame rate but after trying a few different ways I preferred leaving it alone. The difference is likely just in my head, but that’s okay). No other filtering was done on any of the files - not an encoder, remember.
CMs/PVs/etc : Separate files based on how something was listed on the Special Features menu. If selections from that menu lead to a sub menu all those files were treated as chapters within that file (i.e. different versions of a commercial are chapters within a single file). Also of note, the Macross Modelers video from volume 2 does not appear anywhere within the menu (or at least I was unable to find it during any playback of the disc); I don’t know if this is a mistake or not but it was on the disc so it’s here.
Delta Mini-Theater : 2 types, 720p encoded with x264 and 1080p encoded with x265 (both at CRF18); other than the resize for the 720p files no other filtering was done because, as I’ve warned, I’m not an encoder. I did both versions mostly because I was playing around with the difference in resulting file sizes. Special thanks to Matcha, firstly for subbing these (grab his releases if you’ve not already, some of these are really funny) and also for some help making sense of some of the chapter names (or at least trying – still can’t think of a natural sounding way to word 密着レイナ).
JOYSOUND Karaoke Videos/NC OP/ED : Credit for the English translations for the titles goes largely to lyrical-nonsense. Some English titles are also based on the subtitles from the discs themselves. I decided to use ‘KABOOM’ over ‘Explosive Sound’ or ‘Explosion’ due to my own whimsy – explosive sound is probably a more proper translation, but what the hell.
Making of Macross Δ: Also did two versions, again playing with resulting file size. Originally I did the x265 files for myself and the x264 files to share here (though these are rather different from what has been posted previously, only Vol. 6 is patchable, everything else is a new encode compared to what has been posted). The x264 files are done at CRF19.5 while the x265 files are CRF18. The translations of the titles are my own poor attempts. Also regarding the Making of Macross Δ vol. 01 - 鈴木みのりデビューまでの航跡 – first, for some reason QTGMC had issues with the first second of the video (which should be a black screen) and the resulting file had alternating frames of black screen and then the first image frame making for a creepy flicker when the video started. I tried a few different things to try to fix it and ultimately ended up trimming those first ~60 frames and then cutting the audio accordingly before multiplexing. I did my best to match everything up perfectly, but if you find any delays with that file that’s the reason why. Also that same volume caused me headaches thanks in part to its コントレイル reading for 航跡. This is probably the translation I’m least confident in. No chapter names here because I was not ambitious enough to come up with them myself.
Scans : these are just some scans of the volume slip case, cover and the inside part that lists the contents as well as the 3 boxes. The merged images are not perfect but I don’t think they’re terrible for a lazy job (I’m not a photo editor either and scanning the spines of the slip cases was a pain). I did not scan the booklets since that seemed like way too much work and I doubt they’d come out well unless I destroyed the booklets in the process, which I'm not willing to do. For any interested, the original scans were done at 600 ppi and then resampled using Lanczos to halve the pixels in an effort to strike a reasonable compromise between image quality and file size.
Walküre 1st LIVE Selection Footage: Not much to say here, this is a 44 minute selection of 7 songs from the Walküre concert at Zepp Diver City (Tokyo) on 2016.09.10 that was included on the final volume. x264 and x265 versions in the same manner as the ‘Making of’ files.
I think that covers everything I have to say about these. It’s been fun working on these but it’s also been much more time consuming than I first imagined and has given me a whole new level of appreciation for those in the fansub community. Despite its flaws I really enjoyed Macross Delta and enjoyed working on these (minor as that work was); hopefully a few people will find these extras to be of interest as well. If you also enjoy the show, and have the means to do so, I would encourage you to purchase the BDs or DVDs. I was overjoyed when I learned that English subtitles would be included in these releases. I can only hope that the rest of the Macross series would get similar official releases someday. I can dream at least.
Here's a patch for the previously released Making of Macross Δ (Macross Delta) vol. 06 [720p] #903995 - https://mega.nz/#!AdQ2jJwD!7onaGRanV90McLmUuiXZxEpzPQqTyz6k2G3yXMflCKI
I'll apologize in advance for slow upload (I'm one person and this is a large torrent); any help with seeding is immensely appreciated.
